Familiars?

Do you have a familiar? If you don't like to call them a 'familiar' what do you call them? What is it?

I have Dutch Shepherd who is 8 years old that I have had since he was about 5 weeks old so we have a 'bond' like no other I have ever had with an animal. He follows me around from room to room and when I sit in my altar room he is always in there with me keeping me company. I don't know if he is my familiar, per se, as familiars do your bidding and he sure doesn't really do anything I say! lol Whatever he is is special and our bond is magical.

Sounds to me like he may just be very protective.

.... as familiars do your bidding ....

No, that is not what a familiar does.  They help manipulate energies and, if necessary, fight entities on the astral for us.

I would have to agree with CD on what familiars do.  I have never really considered that my cat Honey is a familiar but he is very protective.  Recently, I was under psychic attack from something very unpleasant.  He, and the other cats tried to chase it away.  I thought it was very sweet even though he ended up peeing in my bed as part of their defense.

MrsV has a familiar.

At our last apartment, we had two spirits who moved in (or were waiting) that we became aware of. One was a man who didn't do much beyond occasionally creep out MrsV and once giving me a serious case of the heebiddy-jeebidies when I was moving out the last of our stuff. The second was a Bakeneko, who made herself known when we brought home our Egyptian Mau mix (her tail is freakish-long, which helped, I think). The cat (Lotus) isn't technically her familiar, but the Bakeneko will possess her often, and has helped us several times, especially when we were cleansing LilV's room before he was born to get it ready for him. She did most of the work, if I'm going to be honest.

Her tail recently split, so MrsV is very wary, and aware, of how rebellious she's becoming. According to MrsV, she tried to hide it for a while, but when she refused to help us on a minor energy sending for a friend who really needed it, MrsV called her out on it. We don't use her talents often, and occasionally LilV or I will spot her wandering the house.
