Title: Fun, all natural Yuletide ornaments
Post by: VisionFromAfar on December 13, 2010, 03:06:25 PM
Deck the Halls at Patheos  (http://www.patheos.com/community/paganportal/2010/12/09/wyrd-designs-deck-the-halls-and-hearth)

Haven't tried 'em myself, but they look cool, and I bet they smell devine.

These are good. Good future craft for little Vision so file this one away. My daughters have some friends have made and they last and last. I would second not painting or sealing them... that will keep the smell in which is counter to the purpose of the ornament. You could probably put tiny bits of glitter on them here and there so as not to cover too much of the ornament.

These are fun to make with the kiddo's!  My kids made some in school last year and they made the house smell super pretty

I was going to get the stuff for these a few years ago and that was one of the main reasons why I didn't.  That and I don't think I like the smell of cinnamon enough to have one hanging around for long.

Could you cut the recipe to make a smaller batch? Or smaller ornaments?

Oh Oh!! What if...what if we bought cinnamon from the dollar store?! I've seen spice aisles there!  :happydance:

And can you add a teeny bit of other spices? Like nutmeg? OR OR what if you used pumpkin spice?! Would it work?!

I saw a recipe today that used 3/4 cup of applesauce and 1 spice jar of cinnamon (the larger kind...can get for a few bucks)

It said it makes about 12-15 small ornaments

Has anyone checked Mountain Rose Herbs to see what they charge for cinnamon in bulk?  I seem to recal is wasn't a fortune for an 8oz bag.  I'd check mysef, but I'm at work and they block access to any site with "herb" in the title. :rolleye:
