Spring Equinox
« on: March 08, 2011, 12:34:50 PM »

The Spring Equinox is just around the corner (even though it may not feel like it in some parts of the world!). Are you planning to celebrate it? How? We have a wide variety of traditions here, and I'm just wondering how different people marked the transition.

I will decorate my alter with spring flowers and colors, and leave spring treats outside. Maybe even plant some seeds. I think the meal that night will be a spring salad, eggs, maybe lamb....

You all are too cute!

Not sure yet what I'll be doing.  For sure updating the seasonal altar and dining room table.  If things work right timing-wise I'll do a ritual, but that may have to wait until the following Tuesday.

We'll try to make our annual family trip to a local wildflower preserve. Maybe we'll do a chick blessing for our newly acquired baby chickens.  :D

I spent last night with my sweetie and today enjoying the new green of the Equinox.  We have lots of stuff blooming here already including Bradford Pears (which are almost done thank the Gods!) and lots of different cherry and plum trees and the tulip trees.  On the way home this morning, I noticed that the native redbuds are starting to bloom which marks the beginning of the dogwood season for me. I got out on the balcony and grabbed some sun for a while and then I bought rosemary and lavender plants which I am going to put in pots now.

We are just barely starting to see a bit of green popping up around here, so I am jealous of all that you have blooming around you.  Glad you had a wonderful day!

Well, thanks to Mrs. V's final show, I ended up cooking the lamb and Ostara bread. Surprisingly, it turned out quite yummy. Herb-roasted lamb chops with Honey Orange Tea Loaf.  :tongueroll:

We did inside stuff because it was absolutely pouring or snowing all day. Feels like winter and not spring. We played with the chickens a little and just enjoyed a day off from the rat race.

Meh.  I worked.   :gaah:

Wouldn't have been able to do much today anyway, as most of Southern California has been at least halfway submerged all day.

I planted. I think I'll have to make that a new Ostara ritual.

I got stuck doing chores all day. Just as well ... as HZ said, lots of rain here today.  We got about 2 1/2 inches. :rolleye:

Yep, the perfect day to stay inside and get contemplative.

Oh, and Tirya... as an observance, Ostara might be the perfect day to plant.
Perfect task to get the wee ones involved in as well.
