Title: Stupid stuff
Post by: Crystal Dragon on January 18, 2011, 03:16:09 AM
OK, we all have things that happen that make us feel really stupid.  I thought it might be sort of cathartic to toss out the stuff that we do that we think is stupid.  We can have a little fun and not feel so "alone" in the process.  Who's game?  And yes, I'll start. :)

I hate making typos in email or forum posts ... I get really annoyed when I find them (always after I've sent them :gaah: ).  I know better, I see others do it and I know we all make little mistakes for a number of reasons, but I still feel stupid for doing it.

I'm terrible with names- really embarrassingly so. People I've known for 20 years, I still have trouble with their names. I can remember what they do, how many kids they have, their positions on topics- but not their names. And to make it worse, evidently I'm memorable, because people I've spent very little time with always remember my name. I hate hoping someone else will come up and talk to us so I'll hear the name and not have to admit I couldn't remember it.

peace,
ES

I am sure I do many things.....lol

But the one that really gets on my nerves is. When talking to someone, I loose my train of thought in the middle of the sentence...... :gaah: Then try to get it back. No way.

ES, that sounds like me!  I'm absolutely horrid when it comes to remembering names.  Same goes for important dates.  I still to this day have to double check the date of my mom's birthday because I can never remember it.  I think the worst for me is having to do simple math.  Math and I don't like each other.  My brain really dislikes it and tends to completely go blank when a math problem or numbers are in front of me.  I can work out complex equations as long as I have a calculator handy to do the little stuff for me.  It is fine if I don't know the answer when I'm by myself, but when someone is around to see how truly ignorant I am when it comes to math I am just mortified.  Even more so when my 9 year old is better at it than I am.

This morning I broke a banana off the bunch to take with me to work. When I got to the car I realized I'd left the banana in the kitchen and brought the rest of the bunch with me...

I feel really stupid when I don't remember people that I've met at work at all.  There aren't very many women with careers in the same field as me.  As a result, a lot of folks remember me and I have no recollection of them at all.  I have learned to cover pretty well, but I still feel like an idiot when someone says "Good to see you again" and I can't place them at all.

Getting 5 minutes from the house and realizing you forgot something you really needed for where you are going, like the grocery list when heading to the store.

I feel ya sis ... I have the same problem.  I'm bad with names too.  Nothing worse than getting into a conversation and having to say "Sorry, what was your name again?" 5 minutes after meeting someone.

I do way to many stupid things to list  :rotflmao:

My worst thing I would think is I have a tendancy to mis-pronounce words on occassion and make it sound sexual in nature.

I think I am the queen of the un-intentional sexual inuendo

I'm a combination of ES and Foxy, names and math. I despise math. And I go into a room and forget why I went in there too.

My biggest thing is putting stuff down and not rememberig where the smurf I left it. Particularly frustrating at events and conferences - cans of soda, pens, schedules, keys, my shoes...

I so like everything to be in its place- I sit down with the mail- sort into piles- keep, answer, throw away and on many occasions find the junk mail and ripped envelopes in the office and the important stuff in the bin  I too am bad with names and birthdays- have to write everything down.

My brain is like a sieve and getting worse all the time mostly because I daydream a lot-- think absent-minded professor. The worst was quite a few years ago when I discovered at lunch that I had forgotten to put the peanut butter or jelly on the bread of my sandwich. My family still jokes about the fact that I had an air sandwich for lunch.  :rolleye:

I'm also not terribly observant of details like what someone is wearing or landmarks in my area. Once someone asked me directions and wanted to know if a library I frequented daily was near the huge green water tower. I had no idea what they were talking about. Right after the conversation, I crossed the parking lot next to the library to get to another building I went to every day and noticed that I had to walk across the base of a giant green water tower to get there.

I frequently answer "yest" to my kids even though I haven't really heard the question.

You do realize they are learning that now and saving it up for when they are teenagers, don't you?  :rotflmao:

On the other hand, one can do some amazingly effective spells and rituals using hand made paper and ink. I've learned a few tricks over the years.

GW, it's another term used to describe a chair rail.  In architecture, the "dado" is the part of the wall between the baseboard and chair rail that used to be prone to dampness (prior to modern foundations).  Dado is an Italian word that means "die" or "plinth"  (basically the base).  ;)

My most annoying stupid thing is my total lack of directional sense.  I can't find any place I am trying to get to.  I hear that's an app for that.  Gotta start playing with GPS.
