Fae doors
« on: December 01, 2011, 03:04:53 PM »

This is going to be such a noob queation. I already hear the giggles. Anyway...

Are faerie doors literal doors in and out (say you and I could use it if we were of size) or are they as simple as a painting on a wall done with the intent to allow them enterance?

It all depends on where they are....

I think they can be both, honestly.

Ghost Wolf - I kind of figured they didn't need doors. But I read somewhere that it was polite custom to offer them their own enterance when inviting them into your home.

I guess since they don't NEED a door, a physical opening wouldn't be necessary and a mural would be sufficient...

True ... but some of mine think the little doors are cute.  Sometimes it's just easier to give in. ;)

Ghost Wolf is right in saying that they do not need physical doors.... but to me, providing one puts out that intent. You can think to yourself about how you'd like to invite faeries into your life, and for some that is enough, but I find that I prefer to put out an intent whether it be through ritual, writing or some other tool.

Wonder how Zlat hasn't answered to this topic yet. Her home is infested with those. She probably wishes they did have doors.

Hey there is a cat door in the door between my hallway and my laundry room; that works!
I never responded because the thread never struck me as something I could contribute to without piggy-backing or being silly.

BUT, if you insist.... Fae are said to live within a domain separate but overlapping our own (ethereal, 4th dimension, whatever you want to call it). Therefore, they are aware of our boundaries locations but are not bound by them. They can pass through walls, they can change form, they can manifest as they will onto our realm, etc... Physical doors aren't required.

That doesn't mean you won't see doors or passageways that have been created by humans who:
a) have a fondness for the Kindly Ones and like to attract them to their homes by creating doors/gardens/homes for them to make them feel welcome.
or b) have witnessed the Fae on one of their journeys and have seen the path they walk (Faery Lines stay constant) and have placed a tiny passage-way there for them as a sign of respect.

Lore dictates that you should leave a door/window/gate open for Fae during the nights they travel; because if you don't they will get lost and stranded within our world (much like humans can become stranded in theirs). And that attracts no end of ill-will toward yourself.

Are you happy now?  :pillowfight:

I need coffee...
