Title: Halloween
Post by: AmberRaven on October 02, 2009, 01:26:39 PM
Is anyone dressing up for Halloween this year?  Whether its taking kids trick or treating or parties or passing out candy?

Mike and I are gonna dress up.  I think I might go as a Gypsy.

Poor Nathan wanted me to be Queen Amadala from Star Wars LOL

This year I'm dressing as a pervert. Hey, at least it's not an expensive costume- I already have all I need in the closet.

peace,

My coven normally dresses up for Samhain turning it into a weird combination ritual and Halloween party. I am not into dressing up but the women outnumber me, if I show up without a costume they will stick some silly ears or such on my head. The abuse that I have suffered over the years is amazing, if they can get me looking ridiculous enough and undignified they have to take a picture.

We are hosting a party for some of the neighborhood kids and their parents.  After the party, the kids will hopefully be able to all go trick or treating as a big group.  I will of course be dressing up.  What fun is Halloween without the costumes?!  :D

I'll probably dress up ... not sure as what though.  The 'ole standby is a witch. :D

Since I have a few dance costumes in my closet, I think the bellydancer thing is sort of a given...

For a number of years now I've been having my folks and best friend and her family over for a seasonal dinner. Then we walk with the kids while they trick-or- treat -- we usually just steal various ears and hats from their dressup bin for the adults. I might invest in another pair of those fantastic witchy false eyelashes. I wore ones with glitter one year but I love the variety they have. Gypsy fortune teller would be an easy fun one... just have to find some tarot cards.

You know, I am just so over the Halloween thing.  ***grumbled like the old crone I am***  I'll just sit back and enjoy pictures of your, your kids', and your dogs' costumes.

I will, however, do my annual respects to my ancestors who have passed.  Samhain is actually a very spiritual holiday for me.  I am looking forward to it.

Well last year I finally got to be what I've been dying to be since I was a kid: Little Red Riding Hood. So this year I'm at a loss.

I've considered: witch, Lara Croft, gypsy, Wednesday Adams (something else I've dwelt upon as a child,) a Candy-Land game board, Joe and I ask a joke said we could all be the 5 food groups and make a pyramid...

HOWEVER, today Joe texted me and asked me if I could please, please be The Nanny... I told him to find me a piano key skirt and then I'd do it. His response, "Tell me the Salvation Army wouldn't have one of those..." We love that place. I got this crazy pink, black and white skirt with circles all over it from there. Half the stuff there is dated and awesome.

So, who knows...

Are you kidding! I try to dress up for Halloween every year! I love Halloween! It's my favorite holiday. I'm going as Temari from Naruto. ^^

I'm totally dressing up and going to a party.  My friends own a bar (hole in the wall basement bar haha) and have a Halloween party every year for the expat crowd (Germans still only do it minimally and you have to be 'scary'....boring).  I was going to make something but I'm kind of sewed-out from all the other stuff I make, so I'm going as Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Leather pants, angora sweater, cross necklace, wooden stake...done.

I'm not sure what exactly I'm going for Halloween this year. I might dress up, but my biggest concern will be spending my one year anniversary with my hubby.  :loveheart:

I'd love to be able to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters and to dress up and decorate the house for the festivities. I'll definitely be having a private ceremony for myself to honor the Goddess and God, as well as those that have passed and to welcome in the new year.

Have you tried thrift shops? You'd be amazed what you can find in some of those tiny little stores tucked away in corners where you can barely see them. I always make my costumes out of things I already have, too. I seem to collect interesting pieces of clothing.  :D

I agree with Moonblade's idea. My girls recently needed medieval princess costumes so we went to the Salvation army and they each got pretty small women's skirts and camisoles. I bought an extra skirt that matched and turned it into long flowing sleeves with minimal sewing. If you sew, you could find a piece of white clothing at the thrift store and turn it into the puffy sleeves you desire if you cannot find a top that will work as it is.

Halloween is huge at our house. It is my sons favorite holiday since he was small. We have a garage full of props and decorations and this year he plans to make a "walk through" haunted area. He has also invited friends and after inviting his football player friend I saw dollar signs going off in my head. No doubt he will show up with others and my house will be filled with kids. I am glad for him though. Since I strayed onto this path Halloween has become even bigger and the energy around this time of year is always powerful for me and also for my son. My youngest seems to have an ability to tune into the things around him. We will no doubt do some ritual together after the guests have gone though I still have not found the right place in this house. I miss the last place as I had my own spot there, one that held my things and was filled with a special energy. But now I'm off topic. I don't know if I will dress up but my son wants me to. I suppose I could buy myself one of those nice cloaks$$$$ :rolleye: to wear while out on the deck but it is far too cold to do anything outside after September.

I just finished getting a few of our outdoor decorations up.  I mostly needed to see what we had so we could decide what we wanted to get to decorate for the party.  I put my old witches costume on my dress form along with my black cape.  I used the plastic darth vader helmet from my son's old costume as the head (I put it on backwards so it is just solid black, no detail) and put the hood of the cape over it.  That is currently sitting in my entry, but will be moved to the garage for the "haunted garage" thing.

I have another wire frame dress form that has an antique wedding dress on it.  I'm going to find a scary, ghostie kind of mask for that and put it in the garage for the party as well.

I still have to go and get the other pattern for my costume as well as the material.  With what I'm going to have to pay for all of that and what I just ordered (costumes for the boys as well as a few decorations), I will have spent way more than I really intended to.

Just make sure you place it away from any food or anything that can spill!  Antique dresses actually get quite valuable.

Oh, I'll make sure it is well out of the way of anything.  I'm even going to be setting it on a sheet so it doesn't pick up any dirt from the floor.

Ginj and I have finally settled on our costumes this year. As Ginger has bright red hair, and mine is dark, we're going to be Ginny Weasley and Harry Potter- 40 years later! I'm even going to make a pennant that says "Hogwarts class of 1973"

Ahhh I used to work at Agent Provocateur.  I was working there when that collection came out and I really wanted some of the stuff, but I have a knack for liking the 300-400 Euro stuff, so even with my discount it was pricey.

Haha it didn't last though.  I had standing conflicts of one of the girls there and since she'd been there longer I didn't get through my probation period.  In Germany it's easy to let someone go in their probation period (6 months, I did 5) but hard to fire someone after that so she stayed and I went. Also I don't think I meshed with the company.  They're good to work for (they give a lot of perks) and my boss and I got along great but it just didn't 'fit.'

I did get a lot of free stockings though (most of which I ripped because they always got caught on the boxes), a free bra for joining the team and I got the matching garter belt and knickers with my Christmas bonus.
