I heard that its also a partial lunar eclipse too, I could be wrong though.  I really dont remember where I saw that

According to NASA it is a partial eclipse, but it can't be seen from the US.

Dorothy Morrison in Everyday Moon Magic says the blue moon is the third full moon to rise in a four full moon season.  Just another opinion...
