Title: Blank Grimoires
Post by: Tinevisce on September 23, 2014, 01:39:22 PM
Hi, so I've always been looking for a suitably 'witchy' looking blank Grimoire... What can I say, I have a huge fetish for stationery, and the idea of a large leather bound book with thick, fountain pen friendly pages REALLY gets me excited.  :tongueroll:

Do you guys have any online sources for this that ship international? Alternatively, how about leather journals that can take paper refills of set sizes?

Ideas, please!

The Magickal Cat has quite a selection of blank books. I think you might be able to find something suitable for you here: http://www.themagickalcat.com/Blank-Writing-Journals-and-Books-of-Shadows-s/79.htm

I can attest that the leather-bound books they sell are wonderful; I have a small version of the Tree of Life journal they offer, and I love it.

I really like the stuff at Oberon Design  http://oberondesign.com/

 I find lots of unique stuff on etsy. Some sellers ship internationally and some even if not listed as doing it, may if you inquire.

Thanks guys!

@Thorn
They do look lovely, are the pages Fountain pen friendly? Mine is a fairly wet writer.
@CD
I loved the Celtic hound design in magenta so much! The sketchbook covers are the closest to A4, I think, so I'm particularly drawn to them. BUT, I really should save up before splurging $200 though.  :whistle:

@EM
Yes, I've seen some very good stuff on Etsy too...but I'm afraid of USPS minus tracking, which is what most sellers will do. It might be safer to get some cousin or the other pick one up for me when they come back here, I think

I haven't used a fountain pen with mine yet, but I think the pages should be heavy enough to handle it. They aren't flimsy, that's for certain. :) Whatever you end up getting, I hope it suits your needs.

Yeah, their stuff isn't cheap ... in any sense of the word.  I don't have any of their sketchbooks, but I do have a number of their journals and they are very nice.  If you decide to splurge (maybe after you've saved up) do check their shipping though, I thought I saw that they us the postal service and don't know if they use tracking numbers or not.

Guys, this is so perfect! Exactly the kind of look and feel I'm looking for. Some of the BOS's I've seen at pagan shops tend to be decorative...don't get me wrong, they're very good looking; it's just that I wouldn't feel comfortable writing in it without formal book illumination. Which for me is a non-existent skill ;)

The link I posted above though....it's sumptuous without having that ornamental feel in it...I feel that my usual handwriting with a juicy fountain pen will be fine for it.

In my inner fluffy bunny's terms, it's the difference between the "Book of Shadows" on Charmed, and the grimoire in "Practical Magic"...bonus points for folks who get both references. :)

That's a beautiful journal! Looks like this shop has some good ones... I'll have to see if any are in my price range.

(By the way, "Practical Magic" is one of my favorite movies.  :D )

I just bought it! I just bought it!

Currently a WIP, it's supposed to ship on the 11th of December. I hope I don't have customs issues with an item of this size though.

Here are pictures of the new BoS:

Edited to ask:
Is it 'offensive' to use the word Grimoire when used by individuals who don't come from a particular tradition? This just occurred to me a while back.

Nice!  I don't know why anyone would be offended.  Your own practice is a tradition followed by a very select group of one.   :D

Thanks, glad you like it! :)

Also, thanks for clearing that- I asked because I vaguely remember the word 'Grimoire' comes from very specific sources; so I thought it might offend someone from those paths if anyone else used it without knowing the full meanings of the word.

 :yeah:

Isn't it? It goes exactly with what I feel a BoS/Grimoire should look like (I never claimed I wasn't a fluffy bunny  :crazy:)

No, haven't written anything on it yet; waiting for my scarlet ink to get here. :)

Believe me, I was the same way. I also tried going for the slightly less expensive A5, B2 versions- no luck! The A4 variety wouldn't leave me alone. :tongueroll:

Just did- transcribed the "eighteen rune charms of Odin" part of the Havamal. :)
