Title: Must Be Summer!
Post by: dragonspring on May 30, 2010, 11:49:16 AM
I know that Summer doesn't officially begin until June 21, but I feel like it starts for me first time I go swimming.  Usually, that occurs right around Memorial Day.

I went swimming yesterday and it's hotter than Hades today.  To make it official at my place, I just mixed up my first Summer beverage - a mango-peach daiquiri!  :yeah:  I think I'm gonna take a nap and have a little impromptu ritual tonight.  It's been a while since I put on my robes and celebrated an Esbat.  Heck with my daughter gone, I might even run around nekkid!

So, what makes it feel like Summer to you?

Lightning bugs (fireflies to you Yankees), chiggers, ticks and skeeters.

Hmm...  Good question!  Baseball, BBQs, weather that is too hot to be comfortably out in for very long unless you are at the pool and the kids being home from school.  Yup!  I'd have to agree that if I'm not completely feeling it right now, I will be within the next few days.

Lightening bugs (I call them both, GW) and roses in bloom in the yard.

An interesting question... I'm not really sure! I consider "summer" to start on May 1, since mid-June is "Midsummer", but even with that I"m not sure when I mentally shift gears into "it's summer". I don't have kids, so I don't have "Summer Vacation" in my personal cycle. Maybe the first time we string consecutive "over 90 degrees" days together?

I miss fireflies. Supposedly we have glow worms out here but I have yet to see them. Summer here means 98 degrees in the shade, having the kids home, swimming every day and going to the river. I think the thing I like the best is the smell of the air wafting in my window at night.

I miss fireflies.

Long sigh.....me too.  When I was young, I would beg to stay outside later and later, just to be around the fireflies.  We don't have any in Seattle.

Summer certainly hasn't started here yet.  It's still cold and rainy.  But the days are longer.  It's nice to have more sunlight, even with the rain, at least it's light out.

REAL summer starts when the rain lets up and it gets over 70 degrees.
