Pagan Journeys on Android/iOS Apps
« on: September 18, 2014, 05:47:34 AM »

Hi,

I was wondering if Pagan Journeys has already been registered with an application like Tapatalk which is built for providing native interfaces for accessing forums on mobile devices. On my cell, I access PJ through my Chrome for Android- and as such, I get the full site.

Being relatively new here, I don't know if that has already been done and I'm the clueless one.

If it's not, would registering the forum with tapatalk be a viable option? I'm not sure if there are any logistic problems such as extra cost or security concerns. However, according to Wikipedia:

Quote
Forum software systems supported by Tapatalk are: phpBB3, vBulletin, xenForo, IPBoard, Simple Machine, MyBB, bbPress, Kunena, Vanilla, and Drupal

Isn't PJ's a Simple Machine forum?

From the tapatalk website:
Quote
Q: I have a no ad policy on my forum. Do I have to include ads on Tapatalk?
A: In a word, No. We fully believe that when it comes to your forum, only you should decide if you want to display ads and earn revenue from Tapatalk. If you do not want to display any ads, with one click in Tapatalk’s Forum Owner Dashboard you can choose to turn them off completely across your entire forum.

Quote
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Activating Tapatalk on your forum is completely free and there is no obligation to remain on the service or to display ads.

Disclaimer: No affiliation. This is just the only app that I know of for this particular purpose. :)

We can look into it when we have some time.  I know for myself there are a number of concerns I have with using an interim service so no guarantees or promises.  ;)

Don't get too excited ... I have a lot of reservations.  ;)

Hehe,  :yeah: was the only relevant smiley I could find. I'm actually quite sedate at the moment.

I briefly looked at their posted agreements and disclaimers ... even with just a "first blush" quick look there are some things about this API that could cause us technical problems and there are some legal concerns I have as well.

It looks to me like the API is designed for those who set up free forums and those who want to make money from ads.  They do have a custom API but the cost for that is ridiculously high.

Oh, OK: that doesn't sound too good.

But thanks for looking into it, CD- who knows, maybe someday one of us will design our own custom API. :)
