I am debating whether or not I want to put some of my pieces in an Etsy shop. I'm not a huge fan of Etsy as a business and the options they offer to the people that want a shop. They are very limiting and it will definitely cost more for me to sell an item through there than my shop, but they also provide a ton more exposure than what I'm currently getting. I just don't know if that I really want to go through all the extra headache and work if it doesn't actually get me anywhere. I'm just looking for was to get a bit more exposure for Shades.
What are your thoughts on shopping at Etsy? Are you more likely to buy something through there or through an independent website? Do you spend a lot of time looking at the shops on Etsy, or do you search the internet first for what you are looking for?
Any thoughts, feedback, suggestions or opinions are more than welcome!

I rarely wander over to Etsy. And then I only go there if either something shows up on a search that I can't find elsewhere, or someone I know is selling stuff.
-
I've never shopped on Etsy in my life. My beloved, who does all of her shopping online, says she's aware of Etsy but has never bought anything there, either.

I love Etsy but more for the random creative stuff that really is impossible to find elsewhere...I love your site Foxy. I'm more inclined to buy things off of sites like yours. I bought something off of Etsy once, and it was a tiny bracelet with charms on it that looked like Bella's bracelet from Twilight (for my sister when she was into it, for Christmas.)
But I've known about Etsy for a while now, and that's the only thing I've ever bought. Stick with your site, I feel like it's more official :loveheart:
And as far as creative stuff nobody else sells... here is my example of what I would potentially buy off of Etsy:

But that's really it.

I never shop there. I've bought stuff from Ebay stores in the past but never Etsy.

You know that I used to be a huge Etsy fan but have recently had sour grapes over admin's attitude about the illegal use of wild bird feathers in sellers' shops.
That said, I still browse there daily and have gotten quite a few things from shops there in the past and have been really happy. Some Etsy sellers do really well. I think with Jewelry you would not have to put as much time into listing things repeatedly, etc. if you decide to give it a try. Etsy items do seem to be found well by the search engines. There are also a huge group of pagan-oriented shops on Etsy. Apparently I am in the minority but I tend to feel more comfortable buying there than individual's websites because it is easy to get a feeling for how current and well-maintained the shop is.

I've never used it. I actually only heard about it when Muffin got mad at them about the feathers.

Not to flame your irritation with them, but I was looking for something this afternoon and found actual heads on there. :omg: :pout: Sadly, not just of birds. Some people are just sick.

Yeah...I've seen weird stuff on there before. Don't even know how it managed to come up, but they had on the sidebar "Raccoon Penis Bone"...real or not...really? Just...really?
-
:duh: Nutjobs.
-
I've never bought from etsy, but I do go there regularly to look at different products and get ideas for my own personal projects.

"Raccoon Penis Bone"
:laughfit:
-
Had to check on the penis bone. Yes, raccoons have them. Can be worn as a fertility charm. I can see it now: "Oh, I love your necklace! Where did you get it?" "I bought it on Etsy. It's a raccoon penis." :rolleye:

:laughfit:
GW, don't even ask. I WON'T add those to the shop.
-
I feel quite 'normal' with the fact that I go onto etsy to look for canes, paddles, whips and floggers now!
But... hmmmm, I wonder....
I could make a new toy... "Cat-o-nine racoon penises" :laughfit:

Drats!

That's Shakespeare, isn't it? "By the jerk of my racoon, something wicked this way looms..."

Um, "jerk" was not what I wrote... it rhyms with "brick".

Try to talk about someone being an ass...

:rotflmao: I'm still very tempted to fill the language filter with all kinds of random words just to see what would actually come out of it. It would definitely be an entertaining experience. :D

I think Rainbow Sprinkles should be in there :rotflmao:

We already can't say ass, jerk, dick, damn and witch....

Well, what do you know! We CAN say dick!
