Is it just me...
Or does the mere headline of this story squick you out? AG: Mass. dentist used paper clips in root canals (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/03/16/national/a120031D89.DTL)

Um, yeah, gross-- what were the paper clips for?!? I can't even imagine.
-
**shudders** I saw some idiot sticking part of a paper clip in my mouth, I think I'd deck him.
-
what were the paper clips for?!?
From the story, it sounds like he was using those for securing the caps instead of the stainless steel posts they are supposed to use.
I'm really glad they are charging him with assault ... I'd sure hate to be the schmuck to have to call all those patients. "Um, yeah, I'm sorry but you'll need to have all that work redone so you don't get poisoned by the corroding metal." :rolleye:
-
Or to put what CD said a little less delicately, he was drilling a hole in the top of the tooth, jamming the paperclips into the channel where the nerves were, and gluing a cap to them. It didn't say how he was found out, but imagine if they did corrode and leak electrolytes and umm... byproducts of infection into the main nerve channels of the jaw...
