Can you give me opinions on my Mabon Ritual I wrote?
« on: September 16, 2010, 04:38:11 PM »

I wrote this for my coven for our Mabon/Full moon ritual that I get to be acting HPS for :cheer:  Need some feedback please!

Supplies Needed: Standard Altar Setup

Extra Supplies:

(Have each member bring a black and white candle-perferably tealights)

Sweep

Earth/Water

Fire/Air

HPS will bring up circle

East

South

West

North

Lord: Helios

Lady: Demeter

Call to Helios:

Great Mighty God of the Sun, Helios, Join us as we gather for the celebration of Mabon. Today we celebrate the balance of light and dark and we thank you for the bounties of the harvest that you have so graciously bestowed upon us.

Welcome Helios

Blessed Be

Call to Demeter

Mother of the harvest and the grains, Demeter, we invite you to our Mabon celebration. Come and join us as the wheel of the year turns once again. Celebrate with us as we gather for the harvest and give thanks to the land and the grains that you have blessed us with.

Welcome Demeter

Blessed be

HPS:  We gather here for two purposes, One being Mabon and the other being the Full Moon. Mabon is a time for thankfullness and gratitude for the abundance of the harvest but it is also a time to embrace the darkness of the seasons to come.

HP: Today is also a celebration of the Sun god since it is an equinox. This is the time where the Sun God dies and will soon return to the womb of the Goddess. The Goddess begins to mourn the loss of her consort and inturn she turns the land dark and cold for 6 months.

(reading of poem)

The Dying Sun King.

Harken all, hear these words.
For behold our Father, the Sun King is dying,
And all of Nature is in mourning.
From the skies the Earth is weeping,
Out of the North, dark clouds are flowing.
Across the land, chill winds are blowing,
In cool autumn mornings, winter comes calling.
Harken all, and heed these warnings,
The realm of the Dark Goddess is coming.

Earth spirits decked in gold,
Bow down as the year gets old.
Witness the fury of winter to behold.
Sky spirits, oh travelers bold,
Flee south as the day turns cold,
Before winter's grip takes hold.
Across Earth's great mantle, its bounties untold,
John Barleycorn comes calling, to avoid the cold,
As the Winter Maiden's dance unfolds.

HPS will read autumn poem:

Autumn Colours

Nights draw in, as summer ends,
and natures bounty upon the land.
Acorn and nut, seed and berry,
Autumn's gift are all around.

Days grow cold, as Autumn calls,
and creation give its final show.
Dazzling reds, and brilliant yellows,
Autumn paints this once green land.

A seasonal cycle, draws to a close,
and prepares for death that is at hand.
Autumn and Winter, Spring and Summer,
The seasons show their changing face

Have all coven members bring out their two candles and sit in a circle. Explain the nature of the balance meditation

HPS: Place your white candle in front of you and light it. Focus on all the things that you have brought into your life that you are thankful for. Spend a few moments reflecting on this.

*meditate for a few moments*

HP: Now bring out your black candle in front of you and light it. Focus on pushing away the negativity and all the things you want to banish from your life.

*meditate for a few moments*

After Meditation, coven will stand and hold hands and walk in circles while chanting “We all come from the Goddess”

Cakes and Ale

Close ritual as usual

I really like the poems, perhaps the sharing of the feast with the earth spirits at the end of the ritual, I assume you are having a feast, would be a nice touch. It works like a libation of the feast with a sample of all things brought to the feast set upon a plate. If you set it outside some wandering cat will love you forever and ever.
